Still upset about getting charged a cleaning fee. No matter how immaculate your apartment is (the guy doing the walk through even said he’s never seen an apartment that clean at move out), you’ll still be charged $280 at move out. Sucks when you spend two days cleaning your apartment top to bottom, even wiping down ceiling fans and window sills, only to have to cut them a check after they’ve already kept your deposit. Never have I seen that kind of charge hidden in a lease before. So BEWARE.

Signed the lease in a haste because it was all I could afford at the time, but it wasn’t the best experience. Screaming matches late at night from neighbors (only for the first half of my lease), walls are crazy thin so I was always afraid of keeping my tv or music volume up at a decent level, laundry machines down more often than I’d like, and cigarette butts EVERYWHERE. Seriously, I wish THAT would’ve been the hidden lease charge that they actually enforced. For the entire time I lived there, my neighbors either didn’t have an ash tray and just piled up their butts on their window sill, or just let it overflow so much that you couldn’t even see an ashtray. I constantly had cigarette butts directly in front of my door and had to kick them back to their side. Just added to the trashy feel of the complex.

The only positive is the staff is actually really nice. Just not friendly enough to waive the paint/carpet cleaning fee. I’m sure it’s not in their control, but the leasing company should definitely change that policy for the future. The apartment was freshly painted when I moved in. Do they really need to charge $150 to paint apartments every single year? That’s either wasteful, or they’re keeping the money without painting after each tenant. They should only charge a tenant for repainting if they’ve ruined the walls, not charge people who left the walls in perfect condition. And same with the carpet...there’s only carpet in the bedroom, I never had pets, and always took my shoes off in my apartment. That carpet was brand new and flawless, yet I still had to pay $50 for the cleaning.

And here’s the best part: in my lease it states that I’d be charged $185 for turnover costs ($125 for complete paint and $60 for carpet clean), and “any additional charges are subject to application as determined in physical inspection of the apartment after move-out.” But I was instead charged $150 for complete paint, $50 for carpet shampoo, and $80 for a unit cleaning fee. If I was specifically told my apartment was much cleaner than most people leave them there, why was I charged a unit cleaning fee?? The whole point of a walk through is for the leasing office to check the apartment to make sure it’s in the same condition it was left in, and it was!

When I tried to question it at the leasing office, all they said was “it was in your lease.” Well NO IT WASN’T. I was charged for the two-bedroom rate for paint when I only had a one-bedroom 550 sq ft unit, and $80 for cleaning when there was literally nothing left for them to clean.

So don’t bother renting from here, or if you do, don’t bother cleaning a thing because they’re just going to lie and charge you above and beyond the deposit they’re already keeping from you...
